REFORMATION GROUPS & ACTIVITIES

WORSHIP SERVICES are held every Sunday at 10:00 a.m., with Communion. Several different liturgies are alternated, including two from the Lutheran Book of Worship, This Far By Faith, the Detroit Folk Mass, the Liturgy of Light from With One Voice, and the Gospel liturgy by Jay Beech.

SUNDAY SCHOOL has classes at 9:45 for children aged 3 and up and includes classes for high school students and adults.  The children meet in the old social hall. Adults meet in the social hall following breakfast.

OUR MUSIC PROGRAM INCLUDES THREE CHOIRS, and is nationally known.

THE CHANCEL CHOIR,  under the direction of Charlene Jenkins, rehearses each Thursday at 7:00 PM, and usually sings 3 Sundays each month.

"Order My Steps" 10/30/05 

THE GOSPEL CHOIR, under the direction of Sheralina Baker, rehearses on  Mondays at 7:00 PM and usually sings at least one Sunday service each month.

 

THE YOUTH CHOIR (currently inactive), also under the direction of Charlene Jenkins, rehearses following the 10:00 service, and sings on special occasions.

 

THE YOUTH GROUP has activities for children in grades 9-12.  It meets after the 10:00 service every other Sunday. (click link for more details)


OTHER GROUPS AND ACTIVITIES:

AALA (THE AFRICAN AMERICAN LUTHERAN ASSOCIATION):  Reformation  members participate in the Philadelphia chapter.

CAMP RC:  Twelve weeks of summer fun and learning for children. (click link for more details)

CATECHETICS PROGRAM:  Students in grades 7-8 and up participate with their parents in a weekly program where they receive instruction in the basics of  the Christian faith.  It meets following the 10:00 service.

THE CONNECTING CENTER: Reformation members in the Health Care industry performing a  Health Ministry, through education and individualized screenings.

DRAMA GROUP: (see Theatre Arts Group) .

THE ESTHER CIRCLE:  A group of women who gather on the second Tuesday of each month for crafts and conversation.

THE THURSDAY BOOK GROUP : This weekly book ministry meets to discuss books that relate to Christian worship, with focus on Lutheranism.  The Group also sponsors Game Night gatherings a few times a year, when a month has five (5) Fridays (click link for details):  Reformation Game Night

GET SET:  A public school comprehensive day care center operates in the educational unit during the week.

THE KOINONIA GROUP:  A women’s support group that meets monthly.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITTEES:  A number of committees plan and carry out various programs within the church, under the direction of the Congregational Council:  evangelism, worship, stewardship, helping hands, sunshine, shepherds, global vision, building, women’s day, men’s day, scholarship, finance, advocacy, etc.

THE REFORMATION HOUSE OF STUDIES (Currently inactive):  Reformation offers a wide variety of adult education classes, workshops, and other learning opportunities.  Three times a year a new set of classes is announced.  Students can work towards degrees.

THE S.E.A. of GRACE:
This ministry includes the Shepherds, Eucharistic Ministers, and Assisting Ministers.  Together, the SEA of Grace involves bringing members and their concerns into our worship, prayers, and lifting our prayers to God in worship, and taking the signs of God’s grace shared in our worship, Holy Communion, to other members of our community, click here for more information.

SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY:  Reformation members are organized to participate in a variety of community services, including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, food collection for the needy, visitation of the sick and homebound, Alcoholics Anonymous, Girl Scouts, Philadelphia Interfaith Action, Adult personal computer classes, and neighborhood block groups.

S T R E T C H  Academy (Scholarship and Training at Reformation with Education in The Community and Home). The Academy provides an after school program for middle school students, helps high students with college preparatory assistance, supports Reformation's college students, and provides tutoring for younger students. A reading program also is provided to Camp RC children during the summer. Adult personal computer classes are now handled by STRETCH Academy. 

THE SYCAMORE TREE:  After school activities for children at F.S. Edmonds School (Thouron Ave.  & Sedgwick St.) in a state-licensed day care facility for school aged children that is operated by the congregation.

 

TECHNOLOGY THINK TANK (T3): includes web development, multimedia support for worship services, and sound support for services and special events, etc.

THEATER ARTS WORKSHOP:  (currently inactive) Plays, fashion-and other-shows are put on several times during the year, by "players" of all ages;  meets Saturday at noon. (Click here for picture galleries of recent events)

THRIVENT CHAPTER:  a service organization composed of Thrivent members in the congregation.
