CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR OWN GWEN MAYRANT

Our sister, Gwendolyn Mayrant, has been a member of Reformation for 14 years. She has served our LORD and the congregation as an usher, a member of the altar guild, an adult leader in the youth ministry, a member of the Scholarship Committee, a member of the Koinonia Group and a member of the Anti-Violence Committee. She has served on the Women’s Day Committee for four years and this year she is “Madam Chairlady.”

Sister Gwen is a graduate of the Philadelphia Public School System, and Tuskegee and Temple Universities where she studied secondary education. She has been employed by Pennsylvania Hospital for 19 years, in the Medical Records Department. She serves as the Hospital’s birth registrar. During the last year, she registered more than 5,000 births for the Bureau of Vital Statistics. In addition to this work, she is co-chair of the Hospital’s Black History Committee and plans its Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. memorial programs as well as many other programs for Black History Month.

Our Sister Gwen is a mother and a grandmother. She enjoys performing the services she does at Reformation. Her burning passions are learning, living, sharing and traveling. Reformation family member, be there to recognize and thank her at the AALA Recognition Luncheon, May l3~, at the Brossman Center on the Seminary Campus!

From the Interim Pastor

Greetings in the name of our risen Lord!

I started here at Reformation as we began our Lenten journey, and now I have the joy of celebrating the promise of new life in Christ that we claim during this Easter season.  I look forward to exploring the ways in which God will call forth new life at Reformation during this time of transition.  As this happens I would like to suggest some guidelines for direct communication that I am convinced is healthy for us all and will help the church to grow.

  1. If you have a criticism of me or a problem with me, come and talk to me about it.  I promise to listen respectfully and work with you to address the problem.
  2. If someone comes to ask you to go to me with their complaint or criticism, ask her/him to talk to me about it.

Ø      If she/he refuses or doesn’t feel comfortable, offer to go with her/him to facilitate the process.

Ø      If she/he still refuses, say you will take the complaint to me, but you will reveal the source.

Ø      If the person still refuses, drop the issue.  I cannot act based on anonymous complaints.

3.      All anonymous letters go into the wastebasket and are never referred to.

I hope these guidelines, based on Matthew 18:15-17, will be helpful as we move forward together.  Thank you for allowing me to learn and lead better because you have the respect, the love, and the courage to talk to me about what’s going on and about my functioning, particularly when it is sensitive or critical.  Please also keep in mind that God will always be present and a partner in our conversations.

As you may know, I do not live locally.  I am, however, in the area on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9:00 until 2:00, as well as a couple evenings a week including most Tuesday evenings.  If you want to meet with me, I am more than happy to find a time when we can make that happen.  For this reason I try to make sure that my home office number (856/627-1983) and my e-mail address (PrJZiegler@aol.com) are published in each week’s announcements, in the newsletter, and on the congregation’s web page.

Peace,

Pastor Jeff

REFORMATION WOMEN ANCHORED IN FAITH

Women of Reformation, our day is fast approaching.  Before you know it Sunday June the 4th will be here and we will be assembling in our white finery, praising the Lord in voice and song, receiving His Word from our very own Pastor Sue Ericsson and Dr. Addie Butler, and letting The Spirit just flow from each and everyone of us.  Shouting from the top of our voices “Alleluia! Alleluia!”  Thanking The Lord for all his blessings, for making us strong women and for keeping us anchored in Faith.

Our next event is the Fashion Show on April 29th at 4 PM.  Linda Walker has been working hard with our models and planning a wonderful program. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children.   Please see Linda, if you can help with decorating, makeup, setting up food stations, cleaning up, donating finger food, etc.

Remember if you pay your dues of $60 you will receive a ticket for the luncheon, which is on June 3rd at 1 PM. Everyone working together will make our day especially wonderful.

Peace,

Gwendolyn Mayrant

S T R E T C H  ACADEMY NEWS

Thanks to the many volunteers who worked to make the Good Friday camp a success. Our volunteers included Robin Mattison, Jim Redmond, Helena Barefield, Patricia Debnam, Carolyn Harris, Stephanie Ammons, Lina Baker, Vicar Ari and Pastor Jeff. Nineteen children participated in devotions, singing, creating Easter baskets, planting flowers, videos….and of course…eating! All reports indicate a good time was had by all in attendance!

Summer Reading Circle

Our summer reading circle will commence in early July. The sessions take place in the afternoons (between 3:30pm- 5:00pm). If you have any interest in becoming a reader to children in grades 1-6, please speak with Charlene Jenkins or leave your name at the church office.

Need Your Grass Mowed This Summer?

If you’re interested in having your grass cut weekly for a small fee, STRETCH Academy has several enterprising young people who are looking for summer work. Please contact Charlene Jenkins or Jim Redmond if you’re interested.

Help our youth to help themselves!

Connecting Center

The Connecting Center is planning a Health Fair for June 11 from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be information from the American Heart and Cancer Associations as well as face painting and information on nutritional snacks for children.

Stained Glass or Tinted

The heat and sun-glare in the sanctuary have been discussed for sometime while the choir and congregation suffers. Over time this will damage carpet and furnishings. On May 21 after both services, education forums will be held by professionals on stained glass, designs and cost, as well as tinted glass.  The matter will be on a June Congregation meeting agenda for discussion.
